Do You Need a Wedding Planner for a Las Vegas Wedding?
By Bri Absher — Founder & Lead Planner

The honest answer: not always. Las Vegas is the one city where a wedding without a planner is a completely normal, well-supported choice. It’s also a city where bigger weddings get complicated fast. Here’s how to tell which one you’re planning.
When you probably don’t need a planner
- A chapel wedding. Las Vegas chapels sell all-in packages: officiant, ceremony, photos, flowers, sometimes a limo. The chapel is effectively your planner for the ceremony.
- An elopement or a ceremony for under about 20 guests with no formal reception, or with dinner at a restaurant afterward.
- You’re local, you love planning, and you know the vendors. If you’ve already got a photographer and a caterer you trust, you may only need someone to run the day.
The legal side is simple too: get your marriage license from the Clark County Marriage License Bureau, and Nevada has no waiting period after that.
When a planner starts to pay for itself
- Most guests are flying in. Room blocks, welcome events, and transportation multiply the moving parts, and that’s the work a planner is built for.
- You’re planning from out of state. You can’t tour venues on a whim or meet vendors in person, and you’re choosing from listings that don’t tell you who actually delivers.
- You want a reception, not just a ceremony. Venue minimums, catering, rentals, lighting, and a timeline turn a 20-minute event into a full production.
- You have a specific venue or date in mind. Peak Saturdays and holiday dates go early, and a planner’s relationships help secure them.
- You’d rather be a guest at your own wedding. Someone needs to run the day, manage the vendors, and handle the problems you never hear about.
Full-service or just coordination?
If you need help but not with everything, there’s a middle ground. Month-of coordination means you plan and someone else runs the final weeks and the day itself. Full-service means one person owns the whole thing from the first budget conversation. This comparison walks through which one fits.
The quick test
Answer three questions:
- Are more than half of your guests traveling in?
- Are you hosting a reception or anything longer than the ceremony?
- Are you planning from somewhere other than Las Vegas?
Two or more yeses and a planner will almost certainly save you money and stress. Zero or one, and a good chapel package or a coordinator for the day may be all you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you need a wedding planner for a wedding in Las Vegas?
- Not always. A chapel package or a small elopement usually doesn't need one, because the chapel handles the ceremony, photos, and flowers. Once you have more than a few dozen guests, a reception, guests flying in, or a venue you're booking yourself, a planner starts to save money, time, and stress.
- Can you get married in Las Vegas without a planner?
- Yes. Nevada has no waiting period after you get your marriage license, and Las Vegas chapels sell all-in packages built for couples who want to show up and get married. For a simple ceremony, that's all you need.
- When is a Las Vegas wedding planner worth it?
- When most guests are traveling in, when you're planning from out of town, when you want a reception or a multi-day weekend, or when you'd rather not choose vendors in a city you don't know. A local planner brings vendor relationships and venue access you can't get from listings.
- Is month-of coordination enough for a Las Vegas wedding?
- It can be, if you live locally, enjoy planning, and are comfortable choosing vendors yourself. A month-of coordinator takes over in the final weeks and runs the day. If you're planning from out of state, full-service is usually the better fit.
